Top 5 Reasons Why you Should Consider Social Bookmarking As Another Means of Generating Free Targeted Traffic
And thats not all either, if you’ve been following the whole ‘Tag and Ping’ trend thats been going on then you’ll also see the added benefit to Social Bookmarking if you own your own Blog and/or Website and how people can spread the word for you ‘Effortlessly’ throughout the many Social Bookmarking services available online today giving your Blog and/or Website even more exposure without you even lifting a finger.
I’m serious, and I’ll reveal ‘How’ at end end of this article.
Now, with that said, for the rest of this article I want to stress to you the TOP 5 reasons why you should consider getting involved with Social Bookmarking.
So with that said, lets go to TOP Reason #1.
TOP Reason #1. Social Bookmarking services are FREE.
This is probably the single most beneficial reason for getting started with Social Bookmarking simply because these services are Absolutely FREE to the public to use at their convenience.
TOP Reason #2. Bookmark as many websites as you want.
Another great reason to use Social Bookmarking services is you can Bookmark as many websites or webpages as you want. Whether they’re Articles, Reviews, Sales Letters, VRE Content Sites, etc.
As far as what kind of websites you can Bookmark really depends on the bookmarking services ‘Terms of Service’, so if your unsure as to what you can bookmark, that is the first place I recommend you look.
TOP Reason #3. Tag your bookmarks with targeted keywords.
This is the single most important benefit you get with Social Bookmarking services and that is the ability to bookmark your websites and/or webpages with whatever ‘Keyword Tags’ you want that will help you locate that bookmark when it comes time for you to want to read that particular information.
In the next TOP Reason I’ll go into a little more detail as to why your ‘Tags’ are so important and why you need to choose your keyword tags carefully for maximum benefit.
TOP Reason #4. Make your account Private or Public.
This is where you have to make a choice. And this choice is whether or not you want to make your account with the particular social bookmarking service a Private account or a Public account.
Now, if you choose to have a Private account then those bookmarks you made will be available to you ONLY. But, if you choose to make your account Public then this is where ALL your FREE targeted traffic will come from because now web surfers and the social bookmarking community has access to your bookmarks under the ‘Keyword Tags’ you chose for the websites and/or webpages you tagged.
That’s why I said it’s VERY important you choose your ‘Keyword Tags’wisely because you want the web surfers or community users to be able to find your websites and /or webpages you bookmarked which in turn could lead to more sales for you.
Also, by making your account Public your profile and websites and/or webpages you bookmarked will be picked up by the search engines and indexed, so you will benefit from the search engines that way, plus… you’ll get some high PR(depending on the Social Bookmarking service) ‘One-Way’ backlinks pointing back to your websites and/or webpages Boosting your overall link popularity and search engine ranking for those websites and/or webpages.
TOP Reason #5. VIRALIZE your Blog or Website.
Remember I told you I would reveal ‘How’ you can VIRALIZE your Social Bookmarking efforts ‘Effortlessly’ without lifting a finger if you have your own Blog or Website to multiple Social Bookmarking services.
Well here’s HOW!
All you need to do is add a piece of code to your blog or website and let your visitors do the rest of the work for you. It only takes a few minutes to do depending on your experience with HTML.
If your visitors find the information you offer of quality interest then they will definitely spread the word for you to other social bookmarking networks and communities giving you even more exposure without you lifting a finger.
This to me is a definite PLUS!

Why create such a buzz around these websites? Let us give you a brief overview and the reasons why you should be in it to win it!
What is Social Bookmarking?
Social bookmarking is an online tool which allows people to organize, rate and share their favorite sites on the Internet. Categorize favorite sites using tags, which describe the content of the website. Other people who are interested in the same subject can browse through this selection, based on the recommendation and choose to bookmark the page themselves. The web application often allows users to store links (bookmarks- hence the name ), share and search a web page location (URL), web page address or a file name. All of these lists of online resources can be made accessible to the public. That is why it is called ” social ” bookmarking site. These bookmarks can be private or shared. To get your own social bookmarking storage – simply register to one of the website below.

A bit of Social Bookmarking History
The idea of sharing internet bookmarks was born in April 1996 with the launch of the first social bookmarking website itList.com. The market flourished in three years and websites like Backflip, Blink, Clip2, hotlinks and quiver enter in the competition. But this first generation of social bookmarking software didn’t have a viable money making model behind it. Many failed especially with the dotcom bubble gone burst in 2001. In 2005 and 2006, a second generation of social bookmarking site like Del.ici.ous, Simpy and furl rushed into the social software market, followed by Diigo, Ma.gnolia, Netvouz and Stumbleupon. Latest members to the family are websites like Reddit, Digg, Newsvine, the Uncut Times and Netscape. Recently IBM have revealed plans to enter this market and even the traditional BBC has added social bookmarking links for its news and sports articles.
Social Bookmarking: a small web revolution!
This a new way to discover the web. It is a big innovation in the area of searching for information online. Compared to the traditional system using a search engine, social bookmarking sites have a great advantage: The categorization of the bookmarks is made by humans who understand the content of the pages they have listed (or so we hope), unlike to the search engines which are using algorithms to rate & store the content of web sites. The result pages are ranked by the number of users or the times the keyword searched has appeared on the resource.
The importance of Social Bookmarking sites for Search Engine optimisation!
These Social Bookmarks are a nice “Add-On” for every companies Internet Marketing Strategy. It is all about traffic -and your online bookmarks again generate links which can potentially bring traffic to the website. Furthermore social bookmarking sites are highly considered by search engines because they are seen as reliable and recommended websites – human edited.

What is Social Bookmarking Services?
However bookmarks also have a distinct advantage over search engine results. Searching the internet with a search engine, no matter how good, means that the information is selected by computer software that attempts to determine meaning.
A list of bookmarks is the result of human action, we filter the sites we view and list links only to those sites that provide value. So if you share some of my interests you will probably find it of value to access my bookmarks list rather than using a search engine. Social bookmark sites enable you make any link public or private so that we can make a selection of our bookmarks available to each other.
In order to sort and fliter bookmarks on a social bookmarking site they are Grouped under broad subjects or are coded using Tags – words or phrases which help us to find the link later and other sites we have bookmarked that have the same tag.
Some social bookmarking sites use both tags and groups or a means of bundling tags. I have reviewed 15 social bookmark sites that are all linked to the OnlyWire site. As you will see some of the newer sites are now introducing an increasing range of collaborative tools and developing a unique focus for their site.
Tags are similar to Keywords but at the same time different. When we create keywords for a web page we are really trying to match words or phrases people will be using to search for information and create a density of keywords on the page that will improve our chances of a good search engine placing.
Tags are usually “single” words that categories the site and enable us to find all the links related to the same Tag in the future. But rather than me describe this – it would be better if you had a look at a site to get the idea.
Tips of social bookmarking to generate more traffic to your web site
* A well structured marketing strategy to promote your site and the goods or services you sell. Bookmarking links to your web site will steer more traffic to your site from your target market.
* Creating and maintaining interest is extremely important in attracting users to your site. You need to make the right connection with your target demographic in order to sustain their interest. This means generating a fictional profile of your target customer base and including information and features that would appeal to them.
* SEO techniques, such as using highly searched key words, are crucial in allowing search engines to acknowledge your links when it hunts for specific phrases.
* Combine SEO techniques with well written web copy. It can make a dramatic difference in generating traffic to your web site.
* The type of bookmarking service you chose can ultimately increase the odds of your web site being sighted. Links to and from popular bookmarking sites and the use of highly efficient bookmarking tools can make a dramatic different in your online traffic.
Benefits of Social Bookmarking
* Social bookmarking is a grassroots process that allows users to establish the value of a specific web page, article, podcast, or video.
* Search engines love to crawl social bookmarking sites as there aren’t much better websites for search engines to crawl than social bookmarking sites.
* It is an excellent tool to get free traffic. If the content is good enough and even more net surfers start bookmarking it then it will be on the move and you will get more and more free traffic for your web site.
* By bookmarking an item, individuals are casting a vote to endorse that specific resource.
* The idea is that social bookmarking gives resource credibility; the more users who bookmark a specific item, the more valuable the resource is considered to be.
* Social bookmarking is all about the collective voice.
* Most of the social bookmarking networks increase the profile of items that receive numerous bookmarks.
* It probably won’t be long before the major search engines begin to include social bookmarks as a part of their ranking algorithms.

Social Bookmarking And/or Social Networking – Which is Better for Your Internet Marketing Start-up?
Sure, social sites give you a lot of interactivity and allow users to personalize their sites, compile a list of favourite links, videos, music, photos, documents and share it all with friends and visitors, but how exactly does that help you develop your Internet marketing start-up business?
Above all, you should be aware that social media marketing sites fall into two basic categories, bookmarking sites and networking sites, so you need to be clear about what you want to do?
Social Bookmarking Sites
Social bookmarking sites allow you to build and organize your favourite links (i.e. bookmarks) AND you can choose to restrict them to selected friends or make them public and share them with everybody on the Internet.
The big advantage of social bookmarking is that your favourite links are no longer tied to one specific browser accessible from just one computer in one location.
Social bookmarking services enable users to save bookmarks on a remote web server which can be accessed anywhere where there is an online connection.
Social bookmarking sites usually categorize links with a “tagging” system which allows users to choose keywords with which to “tag” their bookmarks. Sites can then be retrieved via the tags.
You may invite visitors to bookmark your posts. You can do this by adding a button to your page that links through to Stumbleupon, or Digg, or TwitThis and so on.
However, there are so many social bookmarking services, that if you added all their buttons you’d end up with more buttons than content on your page! Instead, use a service like addthis.com, which places one button on your site for a wide range of social bookmarking sites.
Social Networking Sites
Social networking sites offer a convenient method of connecting with people who share similar interests to you.
Sites like Facebook and MySpace allow you to post your advertisements and promote your products, as long as you do not simply (and stupidly) send out spam. Traffic will build on any site that has original, good quality, regularly updated content.
MySpace or Facebook?
It has recently been noised abroad that MySpace is no good for Internet marketing, but that is not so. It was simply a case of too many Internet marketers not knowing who their audience was.
The point is that MySpace tends to attract a younger age bracket with less money to spend than does Facebook. Get to know the sites and adapt your content to each one, don’t simply post the same stuff to both.
One other reason why social networking sites are sometimes dismissed as not being any good for business is that some people do little more than set up a profile. Then they get stuck, don’t know what to do, do nothing. Merely being there is not enough! Find ways to communicate with the people who are there on their terms, not yours.
Go careful, though, that you don’t go overboard with the crazy applications and the “late night partying confessions” stuff if it is not the sort of thing you want your clients to see!
Whereas social bookmarking sites are simply sites for you to collect and organize your favourite links, social networking sites, being more sociable, require more time and regular fresh content updates. With social networking sites you have to work on your image!
Search Engines Love Web 2:0!
Another reason why Internet marketers should build a presence on both social bookmarking and social networking sites is because search engines LOVE them!
Links posted on such sites are regularly followed by search engine spiders. So, by building up your links on these sites, your website backlinks will grow, and so will your search engine rankings, which is what you need if your Internet marketing start-up is to survive, grow and thrive.

Blogs as a Social Bookmarking Platforms
Blogs offer countless opportunities for launching your business into the social media networks, and they can be designed as an extension of an existing website, or simply stand alone. Blogging is moving far beyond the casual journal style of the initial growth stages, allowing businesses and large companies to develop a fresh identity.
Blogging culture allows you to take part in a conversational style of marketing, reaching hundreds and thousands of visitors on a daily basis, and even creating a following. Providing high quality content is an important component of your blog; without good articles and content, your readers will simply move elsewhere.
A blog can be used as a platform for your social bookmarking efforts since each and every link to an article can be shared independently. This is why you need to implement a social bookmarking badge or link on your site, since the times that you are not independently marketing yourself, another visitor may go ahead and do it for you!
Blogs are an easy way to break apart your website into different subjects and categories. Even a well-organized website can be limited when it does not offer comments or space for feedback. While many websites are being designed in this way, the benefits of launching a blog along with your site are a valuable opportunity to generate higher readership.
Blogs also give you an option to implement an RSS subscription service. Since many people simply do not have the time to visit multiple sites in a given day, an RSS feed can deliver new content to their e-mail box or other RSS reader. This gives you a chance to share the link with each and every subscriber, and every time you publish, you increase the chances of someone simply submitting your content to a social bookmarking site or network.
SETTING UP YOUR BLOG TO BE SOCIAL MEDIA FRIENDLY
Your blog may be setup through a variety of services including Blogger, WordPress, or TypePad. Whichever format you choose, it’s a good idea to look for widgets and code that can add social bookmarking buttons to the site immediately. Remember that this makes it very easy and efficient for your readers to start submitting something they read to multiple social bookmarking networks and search engines; all you have to do during these stages is provide quality content on a regular basis, and work on generating a large amount of traffic. Traffic will build on itself, and the more-established your blog becomes, the higher the chances that it will be discovered.
As your content starts to join the networks such as StumbleUpon and Digg, you’ll notice immediate surges in traffic. Traffic is driven largely by the number of interested visitors who rate and vote on your site, and how valuable the content is to a variety of readers. Not only do you need to focus on creating evergreen and valuable content on a regular basis, but it’s important to make it easy for search engine rankings with the appropriate amount of keywords.
INCREASING YOUR BLOG’S POPULARITY WITH SOCIAL BOOKMARKING
The only way to effectively increase your blog’s popularity with social bookmarking is to spread out your endeavors across multiple social media sites. This may include Technorati, Google Links, Del.ici.ous, and Yahoo! Links where your individual articles and submissions are mentioned either within another blog, or standing alone in a particular category.
Tools such as SocialMeter can help you keep track of how well your blog or webstie is doing in the social bookmarking networks at any given time. SocialMeter scans the largest social websites and ranks them against each other based on how many times your link or website is indexed in each one. You just type in your URL and the results will run a search on each site to give you a final tally.
Badges and ‘chiclets’, the tools that you can add to your blog or website are very effective ways to develop your social bookmarking activity. Your blog’s popularity will instantly increase because you are:
1. Providing users increased interaction. You’ll be surprised how many static sites that make this shift can start building traffic with very little direct marketing. Once the news spreads that you are offering this added value to your website, you can look forward to increased traffic on a regular basis.
2. Making it easy to reach Digg and other social bookmarking networks hat allow users to vote. Voting and rating articles is becoming a very popular activity on the web, and if you write something particularly compelling you can start to create a traffic boost overnight.
3. Increasing your exposure naturally in the social networking hemisphere. Social networking and bookmarking gives you a chance to increase your exposure tenfold; visitors who find an article worth sharing will help you reach a much more targeted and refined audience than simply publishing a website and hoping to get readers. You will be delivering your news and information with a much stronger reach.
In addition to promoting yourself on social bookmarking sites, there are some effective ways to market the blog itself. Again, this will encourage your visitors to share the ‘news’ from your blog on their own. Some effective strategies for blog promotion may include:
1. Join an RSS submission network. These will help you submit to an even larger listing of sites, all from the RSS feeds that you create. Syndication allows you to reach a much larger audience, and building a steady list of subscribers can increase traffic flow instantly.
2. Post announcements about your blog and website on forums, bulletins, and community boards. When you have identified your specific channels, start promoting yourself with news announcements, new articles, or simply an introduction to community members. Include your link and you’ll easily start to drive traffic.
3. Join discussion groups and forums about your industry or topic, and leave a link to your blog or website in your profile every time you post.
Be consistent with these efforts and they will pay off big time.

Social Bookmarking: Another New Internet Marketing Tool
You know how to add a site to your favorites list, right? You see a site that you like or that you plan to return to so you add it to your favorites list. There is one big drawback to this “old” system of listing your favorite sites. Your favorites list is locked onto your computer. There is no easy way to share your favorites list with your friends and associates.
What if, when you found a site you wanted to add to your favorites, instead of adding them to your favorites on your computer, you could add them to a list of your favorites that is on the internet. Then you could find your favorites no matter what computer you were using and you could direct your friends to your favorites list by sharing the web address with them.
This is in essence what social bookmarking is. Social bookmarking is creating a personalized list of your favorites on an internet site built specifically for this purpose. The site is constructed so that everyone who visits can see your favorites list and can visit the sites that you think are important.
Visitors to your social bookmark list not only can visit your favorite sites, they can add the sites that they like to their own social bookmark list. Then others can view their list and so on and so forth. A really interesting site could start to spread virally on these social bookmarking sites. That would be a tremendous benefit to anyone’s web traffic.
Another function of social bookmarking sites is to keep track of how many times a site is listed on someone’s favorites list. This number is used to rank the sites popularity. Of course the highest ranking sites are featured by the social bookmarking sites and of course that brings even more traffic to those sites.
How do you start getting listed on these social bookmarking sites? First you have to be listed at least once, so logically you set up your own list and put your sites on it. Some sites have buttons you can add to your site to allow readers the option of listing it on their social bookmark list. There are plugins for some blogs that can do this. Obviously the better and more useful your content the more likely your site is going to end up on readers lists.
The object is to get your site listed on as many social bookmark sites and lists as you can. A few popular sites are: del.ico-us, backflip, netvouz, Digg and stumbleupon.
Getting involved in social bookmarking is good internet marketing, taking advantage of the interactivity of Web 2.0. Social bookmarking is one more tool to use to boost your sites popularity and increase traffic.
